The latest in the Bird Lover Range is the amazing Toco Toucan, the largest of the Toucans and one of the worlds most iconic birds. Native to the tropics of South America, their brightly coloured bills are built from fine bone and keratin, the same material as our finger nails and are believed to help control their body temperature. Their eye catching form and contrasting colours have made depictions of them famous in advertising campaigns around the world, from Guinness to Froot-Loops. In South America indigenous people had complex relationships with toucans. <\/p>

The Aztec, performed rituals worshipping them. They believed that because their beak was created from rainbows, the gods would grant them rain, a participant would wear a head-dress of toucan feathers and plead with the toucan for rain. The Amazonian Achuar people attached a bill from a toucan to a baby\u2019s hammock in the hope that the voice of the toucan would transfer to the infant. The International Union for the Conservation of Nature lists them as species of \u201cleast concern\u201d due to their large range and adaptability. The species\u2019 overall numbers, are declining.
