{"id":6577334,"uuid":"9ba9c54c-018a-48d4-8714-a257f1015329","name":"Red Junglefowl Apron","description":"<p><span>This drawing was made for an exhibition at \u2018We Are The Minories\u2019 in Colchester in 2021: \u2018We are the Minories\u2019 is a new incarnation of the Minories Art Gallery; run directly by the Victor Batte-Lay Foundation which owns the Minories building. For the \u2018Silent Spring\u2019 exhibition artists were asked to respond to nature and the prestigious Victor Batte-Lay Foundation Collection. John Vine (1808-1867) was a Colchester based artist that made many agricultural paintings, including several cockerels. For the exhibition, John Vine\u2019s original painting was shown alongside this drawing and I decided to create a modern take on John Vine's work. The specific breed of chicken was hard to decipher from the original painting so I drew and \u2018gently referenced\u2019 what is believed to be the origin of all domesticated chickens, the Red Junglefowl. This iconic cockerel has a powerful silhouette and is able to inhabit this design with no text and is available in black and white and full colour.
