Part of this series of mugs exploring the amusing invertebrate intersection of entomology and etymology. This Honey Bee illustration, is amongst the first of my insect illustrations, named after what this insect produces, and what we happily consume. The honey bee has become symbolic not only of hard work, but also as an insect 'canary in the coal mine' calling out the threat of bio-diversity loss. The humble bee supports life on earth as we know it, pollinating plant life that is the foundation of our complex environmental systems. <\/p>

Alas our governments fail to challenge the mass industry that threatens our eco-systems. And so the 'honey-bee' has become associated with the loss of our natural world. The sadness of this is in stark contrast to the affectionate term 'honey', a term of endearment for our partners and\/or loved ones.
