Part of this series of mugs exploring the amusing invertebrate intersection of entomology and etymology. The Red Admiral Butterfly is another example of a gendered word being associated with an insect that amuses me, I enjoy the contrast between the military association with the 'admiral' and this beautiful example of one of Britains most beautiful butterflies.<\/p>

I imagine an admiral on a bridge somewhere in full uniform proudly drinking their morning coffee from this admiral mug revelling in the contrast between their esteemed title and the beauty of a butterfly, perhaps a step too far? I am reminded of the notion of an 'alpha-male' wearing a captains hat whilst 'captaining' a dingy. The absurdity of male privilege and the resistance to anything that does not correspond with their narrow sense of masculinity is the 'joke' of this mug.
